collect hair into a ponytail at desired location on head.  Secure with an elastic band.  Slip a finger through one part of elastic band.  Pull strand of hair out from underside of ponytail.

Wrap strand around ponytail two or three times depending upon hair length.  Pull strand of air down through elastic band. 

Move strand of hair around under elastic band until it hangs under ponytail.
