collect a part of hair at the top of head. seperate the collected part in half.

Pull a narrow strand of hair from left side of head. Cross it over left part and add it to the right part.

Pull a narrow strand of hair from right side of head. Cross it over right part and add it to left part.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all hair has been collected into the braid. Secure with an elastic band or barrette, or continue with the Basic Herringbone.
